Direct answer
An optional Whoop connection can add recovery, strain, and sleep summaries. The coach can use that context to ask a better question, not to make a medical judgment.
Context it can add
- ✓Recovery and strain summaries
- ✓Sleep performance and timing
- ✓Physiological fields exposed by Whoop
Your control
- !Connection uses Whoop authorization and can be revoked. Rest Coach should explain the source whenever it references connected data.
- !Rest Coach remains a general wellness tool, not a medical device.
Recovery is context for the conversation
Whoop can provide recovery, strain, sleep timing, and related physiological summaries through an authorized connection. Those fields can help Rest Coach connect a difficult night with training load, schedule, alcohol, illness, or stress.
The recovery color is a Whoop interpretation. Rest Coach should not turn it into an order to train, rest, or worry without asking how you feel and what the day requires.
Training and sleep affect each other
A hard day can change sleep and recovery signals; a short night can change the next day’s effort and perception. Looking at the sequence across several days is more useful than blaming the last workout or the last score.
A coach can help keep the experiment small: hold the caffeine cutoff, move one hard session, protect the wake time, or simply watch another night before changing anything.
The connection has limits
Whoop data cannot diagnose overtraining, sleep apnea, an arrhythmia, or another condition. Concerning symptoms and persistent severe fatigue belong with a clinician. Authorization can be revoked without removing access to conversation-only coaching.

Questions people ask next
Will a red recovery automatically change my Rest Coach plan?+
It should not. The score is one clue. The coach should ask about symptoms, training, sleep, stress, and what you need to do that day.
Can I use Rest Coach without Whoop?+
Yes. Wearable connections are optional. Conversation, memory, and follow-up should still work without one.
